The Sunbuild Top End Gran Fondo, the Territory’s largest cycling event, is back with a new route that will take cyclists through Charles Darwin National Park.
Hundreds of cyclists are expected to put the power to the pedal and participate in the bicycle event which will take place on Sunday 21 July at the Darwin Waterfront.
This year will see competitors in longer categories loop through Charles Darwin National Park, and up to Pinelands. For the first time in the event’s 12-year history, this year’s Fondo will be a closed course circuit route – providing a safer event for all competitors.
The event, which started in 2012, is for all cycling abilities from the 5km Cycle Zone Family Ride, 15km AANT Top End Short Fondo, 41km Darwin Family Law Top End Half Fondo, 82km Inpex Top End Fondo to the 122km Sunbuild Top End Gran Fondo.
Darwin Cycling Club Chair Julian Barry said the Sunbuild Top End Gran Fondo has gained significant traction over the years, and we are proud to present an inclusive and diverse program that caters to cyclists of all levels.
“We also hope that the closed course encourages new riders or gives footpath cyclists the confidence to participate safely without the intrusion of cars,” he said.
“Whether you’re a seasoned rider or a beginner, the Sunbuild Top End Gran Fondo is the perfect opportunity to challenge yourself, enjoy the scenic beauty of the Top End, and embrace the joy of cycling.”
