Australian Hockey Championships heading to the Territory

Territory hockey fans and sports lovers will have front row seats to more quality sporting action next year, with the Top End to host the 2023 Hockey Australia U15 Championships.

It is the first time the Territory will have hosted a national Hockey Championships since the U13s and Men’s AHL National Championships in 2015.

The Hockey Australia U15 Championships will run from 15-21 April 2023 at the MWT Hockey Centre, drawing the best young hockey talent from around Australia to the Top End, with teams from every jurisdiction expected to take part. Every match will also be livestreamed on LIVEHockey.

Hockey is popular in the Territory, with 11 clubs and 1,300 registered members. The sport has a long history in the Territory, with the first hockey game taking place in Darwin in 1940.

Hockey Australia CEO David Pryles said the Territory has produced some incredible hockey talent.

“A host of athletes who have represented our flagship national teams, the Kookaburras and Hockeyroos, herald from the Northern Territory, so it is fantastic to be bringing the 2023 Under 15 Championships to the Top End,” he said.

“Hockey has a significant footprint in the Northern Territory sporting landscape and we are excited to hold this national event in Darwin with the support of the NT Government and Hockey NT.”

The event is supported by the Northern Territory Government through Northern Territory Major Events Company. To find out more visit https://www.hockeynt.asn.au/home/
