National Country Swimming Champs making a splash

Swimmers from across Australia will soon converge on the Territory, with Darwin to host the Australian Wide Country Championships from Saturday, 1 October to Tuesday, 4 October 2022.

The event will be held in conjunction with the Junior State Age Challenge, and will see some of the best swimmers from regional Australia compete at the Parap Swimming Pool.

Large numbers of competitors and supporters are expected to travel to the Top End for the events, giving a welcome boost to the region during the Territory’s shoulder period.

Northern Territory Major Events Company CEO Tim Watsford said the event will give Territorians exposure to high-level swimming right here in their own backyard.

“Competitors and their support teams from across Australia are heading to Darwin for this exciting event during the typically quieter shoulder season. They will provide a welcome boost to the local economy,” he said.

“We are looking forward to viewing some of the country’s most talented swimmers from regional Australia who will be competing in the Northern Territory,” Swimming Northern Territory CEO Rob West added.

The Championships will include two sessions per day, with competition racing commencing at 9am and 5pm. Warm ups will begin at approximately 8am and 4pm daily.

The Australian Wide Country Championships are supported by the Northern Territory Government through Northern Territory Major Events Company.

Spectators can attend for free, but swimmers must pay an entry free and register by Sunday, 25 September. For more information, visit https://nt.swimming.org.au/events/2022-country-championships-long-course-1st-4th-october-2022.
