Two big weekends for mountain bike riders and runners in the Red Centre

Fitness fans are in for a treat when the Redback MTB Stage Race and Run Larapinta Stage Race return to Central Australia this month.

The mountain biking and running events will test the fitness and mettle of even the toughest competitors as they race against the stunning backdrop of the MacDonnell Ranges.

The Redback MTB Stage Race will take place from 18-21 August with 100 to 150 riders, including 2022 Redback Overall Male Winner Rohin Adams, flying in to Alice Springs from around Australia for six exhilarating stages.

Rapid Ascent General Manager Sam Maffett said: “we look forward to welcoming riders and runners to these two extraordinary events, where they’ll be treated to the best of the best courses in a unique and desirable holiday destination”.

The new race format will see competitors start and finish around Alice Springs, meaning competitors do not have to navigate transport outside of town. Tracks have been selected with support of the Central Australian Rough Riders mountain bike club, to ensure the most exciting options are used.

Northern Territory Major Events Company CEO Suzana Bishop said the events drew in racegoers from around the country, which provided a positive impact on the local economy as they stayed, ate and experienced the sites of Central Australia.

A few last-minute spots are available in the Redback MTB Stage Race, but the Run Larapinta Stage Race, which will take place from 24-27 August, is sold out. The challenge sees racers tackle the picturesque Larapinta Trail.

Around 200 competitors will undertake the four-stage race through either The Malbunka long course or The Namatjira short course.
